Even as the doldrums of summer set in, the promise of future activities can inspire excitement about the months to come. That’s why on the end of North Texas spring gatherings, 2024 Crystal Charity Ball Chair Cheryl Joyner‘s announcement of the legendary ball’s 2024 theme helped cool the summer heatwave.
To reveal the theme, Cheryl gathered together committee members, their guests and the production team at Arlington Hall on Wednesday, May 1. Her only disappointment was the probability that her husband Richard Joyner would be unable to attend due to his returning from out of town on business. But leave it to a devoted husband to overcome airline schedules and busted tires to arrive in the nick of time.

Still another husband unable to attend was the evening’s co-underwriter Chuck Thoele. But his better half/wife Beth Thoele stood in for Chuck.
But all of that is not to say that there weren’t plenty of committee members’ husbands on hand, like Aaron Kozmetsky, Michael McKissack, Bill Francis, David Condon, Mark Knowles and Jeremy Besser.

During the cocktail reception, little did the guests know that there were “Easter eggs” like apples, mini-freestanding topiary, votive candle on the table in the lobby and on the mantel in the main room along with the little round tables topped with table clothes and shade lights that screamed The Café Carlyle.

To the delight of the standing room only crowd, the pianist started playing “New York, New York” and the curtains on the stage were pulled back showcasing flocked trees and a backdrop reading “New York Holiday.” Servers arrived with trays of Manhattans, of course. Especially thrilled was former New Yorker/ 2013 CCB Chair Caren Kline, whose ball theme had been “Magnificent Manhattan.”

As the 2024 Theme Reveal is being completed, check out the people and the Easter eggs that hinted of the announcement at MySweetCharity Photo Gallery.
