Is it toasty enough in these parts? Not really. But it’s gonna start warming up for steamy days and weeks ahead. Oh, for the first blast of cold fronts? Alas, those days of chill won’t appear until Halloween tricking and treating and that’s way into the future.

In the meantime, TXU and The Senior Source have joined up for the annual Beat The Heat program to help the area’s elderly handle the upcoming heat waves.
To celebrate TXU Energy’s signature program, TXU has donated $30,000 to help The Senior Source provide window air conditioners to older adults.
Thanks to that donation, The Senior Source staff and volunteers will distribute 300 window air conditioners to pre-registered recipients at Community Missionary Baptist Church-Cedar Hill Campus, 820 E. Wintergreen Road, Cedar Hill, this Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.
Prior to the drive-thru distribution, there will be a vendor fair offering critical services like food assistance, dental care and counseling for seniors.
To receive one of the units, a person must
- Be a Dallas County resident
- Be age 60+ (or 55+ with a documented, serious health condition)
- Have no air conditioning in your home or have a window unit that is 10 years old or older
- Be unable to afford repairs
- Be pre-registered
You can pre-register online here.
However, not all seniors are internet savvy or even have online accessibility. If you know of such a case, contact The Senior Source’s
BTW, The Senior Source is not done helping those in need. According to The Senior Source President/CEO Stacey Malsolmson, they’re planning “a second distribution on Wednesday, July 24, at Habitat for Humanity’s office, where we’re trying to reach more Hispanic and West Dallas older adults.”
To support The Senior Source’s Beat The Heat program, donations of funds are being made here to provide the additional AC units. The goal is $80,000 and so far they’ve raised $13,565.
