Where were we all 25 years ago? Most folks were preparing for the end-of-the-world with 1999 turning over to 2000. Would computers go haywire with the change of the 1900s to 2000s? It was a time when social media was in its kindergarten days, and New York’s Twin Towers would soon crumble.
But locally, a couple of non-profits gave birth to fundraisers to support lifesaving programs.
It’s hard to imagine, but what began life as startups back in 1999 have grown over the years, raising millions of dollars for their programs and preparing to mark their 25th anniversaries in 2024.
Just as Baylor Scott and White Dallas Foundation launched its plans for its anniversary luncheon to battle breast cancer earlier this week, the KidneyTexas ladies kicked off their own Silver Jubilee fundraiser — The Runway Report Luncheon and Fashion Show for 2024 yesterday.
To celebrate its silver anniversary, KidneyTexas President Monica Cooley announced at Thursday’s KidneyTexas Spring Tea that the fundraiser will be co-chaired by Claire Catrino and Kaleta Blaffer Johnson.
While fashion producer Jan Strimple will be coordinating the fashion show, Claire and Kaleta are mum on what looks will be on the catwalk at Brook Hollow on Tuesday, September 24.
Funds raised from the luncheon will support KidneyTexas’ mission to “provide funding to improve the methods of treatment, the search for a cure and prevention of kidney disease and other kindred or contributory diseases; and to develop more adequate provision for the care of persons suffering from such diseases.”
With individual tickets starting at $500, sponsorships range from $5,000 to $50,000.
