As reported previously, there’s a North Texas fundraising collision of sorts taking place on Saturday, September 28. And it’s going to result in NBC5’s morning co-chairs on opposite sides of the area.
NBCs’ longtime Cattle Baron’s Ball emcee Deborah Ferguson will be on stage at Southfork for the North Texas American Cancer fundraiser with Carrie Underwood on the main stage.
But while Deborah will be in boots and fringe with 3,000 barons and baronesses, her morning compatriot/newlywed Laura Harris-Means and her husband/Charles Schwab VP Branch Manager Patrick Means will be at the Meyerson, co-chairing the DSO Gala that will kick off the fall season’s black-tie fundraising season, when beautiful gowns and custom-made tuxedos are in attendance.
In some ways it will be a return to familiar digs for the couple, since they got married at the Meyerson back in December.
According to DSO President/CEO Kim Noltemy, “The DSO Gala is always an incredible evening of music and celebration and the perfect way to kick off the upcoming concert season. We are thrilled that Patrick and Laura will lead the charge this year, and we look forward to working with them in this capacity.””
Joining DSO Music Director Fabio Luisi and the DSO onstage will be guest pianist Lang Lang “in his first appearance with the orchestra since the 2016 DSO Gala” performing Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto.
As Laura explained, “As a former violinist, I understand the value of the arts and a musical education; but it’s not lost on me that it can be a financial burden for families. Thanks to the DSO’s community programs, the next great musician may be discovered right here in Dallas, in large part through generous support of the gala.”
The entire evening including a cocktail reception, a seated dinner, premiere hall seating and an after-party is going for $1,500 per person. If you want more info about the full-evening package, contact Denton Bricker at 214.871.4011.
But if your budget is tight and your ears are hungry for beautiful music, tickets for the concert and after-party only are $80 each. According to the DSO, Concert and After-Party Experience tickets “are available at dallassymphony.org or 214.849.4376.”
Word just arrived: “The website isn’t up just yet. We’ll have another big press release about Gala in the summer. For now, we’re directing people to email or call for ticketing info.”
