There are those who will claim that North Texas is always the center of the universe. But according to the sky high brainiacs, this claim will be true on Monday, April 8, as a total solar eclipse will be visible with the moon merrily spinning between Mother Earth and Old Man Sol. While a partial eclipse will seen throughout all the 48 contiguous U.S. states, the drop-dead best seat will be North Texas, where daylight will literally go dark.
And the Callier Cares Luncheon Chair Laura Downing and Honorary Co-Chairs Sara and David Martineau have taken full advantage of the elliptical occasion. Following the annual luncheon taking place at “a local country club” on April 8, the Callier Center fundraiser will host an after-party to coincide with the total eclipse taking place at 1:40 p.m.
In addition to the lights-out after-party, the luncheon will honor philanthropist Sarah Losinger with the Ruth and Ken Altshuler Callier Care Award for “her ardent and compassionate leadership and support in the community on behalf of individuals with disabilities.
As Laura said, “Sarah’s philanthropic commitments to transformative patient care initiatives such as the Evergreen Fund bring clinical care to children in need of speech, language, hearing and autism spectrum services, providing therapy that will help them grow and flourish throughout their lives.”
Last Thursday Laura, Foundation for the Callier Center President Anne McPherson, past presidents Tricia George and Beth Thoele, Callier Center Executive Director Dr. Angela Shoup, Richard Neely, Rosemarie Ewton, Brooke Shelby and Pam Busbee (with her Rosie) settled down at the Crestpark to sign letters in time to be mailed on Tuesday following the Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday ice day.
But, why wait for your letter carrier to thaw out? Just go ahead to land an underwriting opportunity by contacting Director of Development Holly Rio at 972.883.3634.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit patients in need through the Callier Cares Fund.
