This week your friendly snail-mailman will be delivering the 2023 Celebrating Women sponsorship letters with news from 2023 Celebrating Women Luncheon Chair Ola Fojtasek and Underwriting Chair Amanda Shufeldt.
Since many will be out of town and can’t wait until they return to open the letter, here is the scoop about the plans. Ola has a goal for this year’s Baylor Scott and White Dallas Foundation‘s luncheon to “break the $40M mark.” Over the last 23 years the luncheon has raised more than $38 million to date.
As Ola explained, “For more than four decades, Baylor Scott and White (BSW) has served as my family’s healthcare home. I am honored to lead this year’s Celebrating Women effort alongside my highly accomplished super mom and fundraising extraordinaire, Amanda Shufeldt.”
In light of the recent recommendations from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force encouraging women to get mammogram screenings starting at age 40 and follow up every other year, Baylor Scott and White breast surgical oncologist Dr. Lucy Wallace provided some additional insight in advancements in understanding the disease.
While “many have assumed that breast cancer is hereditary, in fact only 10% of breast cancers fall into that category.”
In 2020, BSW launched the High Risk Breast Screening Program to “help women better understand their personal risk and provide recommendations regarding additional screening tests, monitoring and preventive measures.”
So far, more than 10,000 women who are high risk have been identified who would otherwise be unaware of their situation.
To become part of the BSW High Risk Breast Screening Program, just fill out the questionnaire at any of the BSW imaging centers.
In addition to Tom Thumb and the Albertsons Companies Foundation returning as the presenting sponsor, the mega luncheon will once again take place at the Hilton Anatole on Monday, October 30.
Stay tuned to learn who this year’s speaker will be. In the meantime, why not schedule that mammogram, sign-up for the High Risk Breast Screening Program and get your sponsorship and/or ticket locked down to help Ola and Amanda break that life-saving $40M goal?
