While the Brits were gearing up for the coronation of King Charles III (aka Princess Diana’s ex) across the pond, the Women’s Council of the Dallas Arboretum was in high fiddle for the 2023 Mad Hatter’s Tea that wasn’t. Actually, the Women’s Garden fundraiser co-chaired by gal pals Anne Stodghill and Kristina Wrenn was a luncheon. But who’s gonna grouse about such sundry little details.
Why, Anne and Kristina didn’t even throw shade on the across-the-pond royals for creating problems for scheduling judges for the stop-the-presses hat judging. Shoot! They had Neiman Marcus President Ryan Ross, Gro guru Nathan Johnson and a gaggle of gals in-the-know on board for the competition on Thursday, April 20.
Why, there was even a surprise Lifetime Achievement Award!
And the guests didn’t disappoint one iota with headwear brimming literally with everything from flourishing feathers and flowers to novelty items and gents on horseback. Even the gents like Mad Hatter’s First Gentleman Steve Stodghill, Stubbs Davis, Harry Hunsicker, Steve Solomon and David Yarrow got in the swing of things.
Needless to say, cellphone salutes were seen throughout the day.
Despite Mother Nature’s threat of grumbling weather throwing a p(r)issy wrench into plans, the fundraising carried on its way with designer Michael Faircloth sharing his “The History, The Humor And The Hope Of The Hat.”
