Never let it be said that North Texas ladies will let a change in the weather impact their fashionable taste. A perfect example was Dec My Room of North Texas’ 2023 Room To Grow at NorthPark’s Neiman Marcus Courtyard on Wednesday, April 5.
Surely, the chilly weather of the past winter was in the rear-view mirror and April’s springlike temperatures would be simply ideal for the annual outdoor seated luncheon and presentation of the season’s trend. And, of course, it would also be the perfect time to bring out those adorable, breezy frocks and equally show-stopping stilettos, with all nails polished to perfection.
Well, logical planning doesn’t always gel with Mother Nature’s whim, and she evidently wasn’t in a good mood starting with a thunderstorm complete with lightning and rain. And she wasn’t through. After the previous couple of days warming up to the upper 80s, the day’s high of 68 degrees wouldn’t arrive until 4 p.m.
But the ladies wouldn’t be denied their promised outing to dress up the courtyard with the prettiest fashions and to hear NorthPark Luxury Ambassador Kimberly Schlegel Whitman and Moll Anderson discuss what was in lifestyle’s future.
Before they took their places at the round tables with ash rose pink lace tables clothes, there was the champagne board, the silent auction and, of course, catching up.
Lisa Ogle was back from a trip overseas and didn’t hold back on what her favorite spot was — Luxor, Egypt…NM VP, Market General Manager (NorthPark and Downtown) Scott Mitchell was just 24 hours away from closing on his new home… Joining local NM execs (Mary McGreevy, Marjon Henderson and Nerissa von Helpenstill) for lunch in the courtyard was NM VP, Market Manager of the South Texas region Ryan Jay… Jennifer Dix in a bare sleeved dress and bare legs admitted that on her drive over she wondered if she had made a wrong turn in her closet… NorthParkies Kristin Casner and Shelby Foster made last minute adjustments. Kristin bought a coat and Shelby picked up a hot tea…Venise Stuart laughed as she told how her husband Larry Stuart’s head was bigger than usual thanks to his physical therapist asking if he was 65. Well, he was once… Fort Worthy Olivia Kearney reported that husband Jeff Kearney had gotten a clean bill of health from his recent run in with skin cancer. She told how the cancer had been spotted on his scalp by his barber. It seems that barbers and hairdressers are schooled on how to spot signs of cancer on scalps. To reward his vigilant hairdresser who loves food, the Kearneys thanked with loads of gift cards to area restaurants… Joanna Clarke was wordless. Seems that her doc told her no talking for four weeks due a cyst on her vocal cords. This situation is going to be challenging for Joanna especially with the 2023 Chick Lit Luncheon falling within that time frame.
Before NorthPark Ambassador of Luxury Kimberly Schlegel Whitman and Moll Anderson with the help of models discussed the must-have trends of the season, Luncheon Co-Chairs Sunie Solomon and Samantha Wortley and Dec My Room North Texas Area Director Heather Smith welcomed the courtyard filled with guests and introduced high-school senior/Dec My Room’s Celebrate Flight Award recipient Alexis Williams, who had been the beneficiary of the program. Having been a hospital patient for an extended period of time, her room had been decorated to become her own.
Following the luncheon as guests left for jobs and carpool lines, Alexis and her mother Shannon Williams headed back to the hospital for a bone transplant to deal with the cancer that had returned.
