While Memorial Day signals the abandonment of North Texas by folks heading to beaches and mountain escapes, the Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s (DBDT) “The Big Dance Party” fundraiser is still partying and the place to be on Saturday, June 3, from 7 to midnight at the Meyerson.
Tapping the style and looks of our neighbors south of the border, this year’s event will be highlighted with a saucy spice theme of “La Vida Es Un Carnaval!” (aka “Life Is A Carnvial!”).
Co-Chairs Sharon K. King and Veronica Torres-Hazley along with Honorary Co-Chairs Sam Santiago and Enrique G. Corbian have arranged for “live music with traditional and contemporary local Dallas artists.”
With premier Cuban style orchestra Havana NRG!, salsa band Fusion Latin and Mariachi Zacatecas providing the tempo, the night is gonna be anything but ho-hum. Thank heaven, the Meyerson’s AC will be ramped up to calm down the steamy salsa dancing.
Of course, there will be foodie delights complimenting the night’s theme along with social dancing, festive decor and professional dance vignettes by DBDT dancers showcasing the beauty and exuberance of the Latin and Afro-Latin culture.
On the other hand, if you’re already booked that night for your monthly clogging class, it’s too bad. Because this event is one that is going to be brimming with zeal, beauty and inspiration.
And if you’re interested in in learning and/or brushing up on your salsa steps, you should check with Amanda Alvarez who will polish up/create your dance steps for the night of Latin moves.
Funds raised from the evening will benefit Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s Dallas Black Dance Academy.
Tickets are available here along with sponsorship opportunities.
