The dynamic philanthropic mother-daughter team of Mary McDermott Cook and Grace Cook must have incredible connections with Mother Nature. For on the evening of Saturday, April 1, the Cooks co-chaired the 2023 Nasher Prize Award Gala at the Nasher Sculpture Center.
While planning an outdoor event anytime in North Texas is a dicey situation, it certainly wasn’t the case for this one. The skies were spectacular and temperatures so user-friendly that the crowd of art loving folks like Wendy and Jeremy Strick, Donna Wilhelm, Amber and Grafton Ifill, Marlene and John Sughrue, Marlena and Brent English, Laura Wilson, Jessica Nowitzki, Joyce Goss, Whitney West, Paula Lambert, Sara Kay and Alison Hearst made themselves right at home on the terrace and around the tree-shaded grounds highlighted by sculpture, of course.
As guests took their places for the dinner in a magnificent tent in the Nasher Garden honoring 2023 Nasher Prize Award Laureate Senga Nengudi, they would soon learn how the Center itself had been inspired by co-host/co-presenter Nancy Nasher’s mother, the late Patsy Nasher.
