2023 Zoo To Do Co-Chairs Thai-Lan Tran and Steven J. Roth ending the week on a high note… a really high note. They’ve arranged to have that favorite philanthropist Lyda Hill to serve as their honorary chair for the annual Dallas Zoo fundraiser.
Even before signing Warren Buffett’s The Giving Pledge in 2010, Lyda was known for her supporting North Texas non-profits. For instance, she was a driving force in the Junior League of Dallas’ having its headquarters on Inwood. Lyda didn’t just put her name on a list to raise funds or sign a check. She literally visited with the neighbors in the area to talk with them about the proposed building.
Today her Lyda Hill Philanthropies foundation reflects her commitment and energy and has become synonymous with If/Then, #IfThenSheCan – The Exhibit, Pegasus Park and programs involving science, nature, community and empowering nonprofits.
As the Carnegie Institutions described Lyda upon her receiving the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy last year, “Today, philanthropy is her passion and central focus.”
In addition to all her business successes and philanthropic supports, Lyda has a great sense of humor.
That’s just the way Lyda was, has been and continues to be.
On Saturday, November 4 (aka the eve of the end of 2023 Daylight Saving Time) Lyda will be walking and talking with the animals at the zoo along with hundreds of other guests.
Stay tuned in the weeks ahead to learn about the theme, logo and committee chairs.
