Grovel Alert: Family Compass’ 5th Annual North Star Luncheon

Feb 13, 2023 9:30 AM by Jeanne Prejean

Erin Gruwell*

The 5th Annual North Star Luncheon presented by ExxonMobil is still more than two months away benefiting Family Compass and there are just three tables left.

Taking place at the Dallas Country Club on Monday, April 24, the featured speaker is Erin Gruwell, who rose to national attention when she and her 150 high school students known as the Freedom Writers — who came from households affected by poverty and violence — were featured on ABC’s ‘Primetime Live’ in 1998. Thanks to Erin’s guidance and determination, the students “overcame adversity to pursue higher education.”

Over the years Erin and her Freedom Writers have continued their mission to inspire others and to be recognized with numerous awards and the Emmy Award-winning PBS documentary “Freedom Writers: Stories From The Heart.”

This fundraiser is a great opportunity to attend and take along a teacher or youngster who might benefit from Erin’s story. Don’t wait. Time’s running out. Get your place at the table before they’re all gone.
