When it comes to determination, Genesis Women’s Shelter may lead the list in delivering their fundraising efforts. The most recent example is Academy Award-winning Nicole Kidman.
It was about three years ago that the non-profit announced plans to have the actress be their keynote speaker for the 27th Annual Genesis Luncheon chaired by Leigh Anne Haugh.
Nicole was ideal for the event, having appeared in HBO’s “Big Little Lies” series (2017-2019) that was “effective in opening audiences’ eyes to the fact that domestic violence can happen to anyone.” Her involvement with the production had started due to Reese Witherspoon’s urging that she read the Liane Moriarty book. After an overnight read, Nicole flew to Australia to meet the author with the hope of obtaining the rights for the book. She not only received it 48 hours later, she and Reese co-produced and co-starred in the series.
But the pandemic upstaged Genesis’ plans, forcing organizers to reschedule and eventually settle for a virtual presentation by Nicole. To help their efforts, the red-haired beauty even provided a special message for Genesis’ 2020 year-end donation to impact the life of a woman or child who has experienced domestic violence.

Now that in-person gatherings have returned to a norm, neither Nicole nor Genesis were giving up on having a big, old sit-down luncheon.
30th Annual Genesis Luncheon Co-Chairs Monica and Brent Christopher have just announced that Nicole will be in-person as the Luncheon’s keynote speaker in time for Mother’s Day weekend on Friday, May 12, at the Hilton Anatole.
According to Monica and Brent, “Joining arm-in-arm with Nicole Kidman in Dallas will build even more momentum against domestic violence in our community. She brings so much star power alongside all of us to boost the Genesis mission.”
Sponsorship and ticket information are available here. If you’ve been struggling to find that one-of-a-kind gift, why not host a friend and a bunch of folks for this event? Or, if you want to celebrate your mom with a very special luncheon just before Mother’s Day, this is the one!
