Chick Lit Patron Party Featured Cynt Marshall’s Reading From Her New Book And Korshak Fashions

Oct 21, 2022 5:30 PM by Jeanne Prejean

On the eve of the 2022 Chick Lit Luncheon, the Community Partners of Dallas fundraiser’s patrons including Leana Brayshaw, Libby Hunt, Diane Moten, Kim Stephens-Olusanya, Sandy Moore, Rhonda Sargent Chambers, Francie Mancillas, Christie Carter, Deve Sanford, Heather Bonfield, Elizabeth Gambrell, Mary Lee Miller, Roxanne Carne and Chick Lit Presenting Sponsors Lara and Bob Tafel were in for a unique evening at Stanley Korshak.

In addition to Chick Lit Honorary Chair Cynt Marshall reading an excerpt from her just-released book “You’ve Been Chosen: Thriving Through the Unexpected,” Korshak owner Crawford Brock arranged to have Korshak personal stylist Sonya Woods Rose provide a fashion presentation. Here’s a report from the field:

Chick Lit Luncheon Co-Chairs Errika Flood-Moultrie and Renita Joyce Smith, with Honorary Chair Cynt Marshall, welcomed more than 100 sponsors to a patron party hosted in their honor on Thursday, September 29.

Hosted by Stanley Korshak, partygoers mingled downstairs upon arrival, before gathering on the second floor for a special presentation.

After a brief welcome by CPD President/CEO Paige McDaniel, Cynt shared an excerpt from her new memoir, “You’ve Been Chosen: Thriving Through the Unexpected.” Before she began she said that while the book is about her cancer journey and going through chemotherapy, it is really a story about how every challenge she has ever faced, that she really believes that she was chosen for that challenge. Just like those in the audience were chosen for their challenges; and not only chosen but uniquely equipped to handle those challenges.

The chapter she read described her personal journey with her husband of miscarriages and the loss of their six-month old daughter. Deciding later that they would consider adoption, Marshall and her husband eventually adopted two-year old Anthony, who had been neglected and then abandoned by his mother at just nine months old – a story that mirrors many of the children served by Community Partners of Dallas.

Following, Stanley Korshak personal stylist Sonya Woods Rose talked all things fall fashion. With the help of two models and a rack of her top picks, she highlighted the latest trends and must-have pieces with lots of nods to the 1980’s, including hot pink, trench coats, pleather and/or leather, culottes, pajama-inspired looks, statement-making boots in bright pops of color, great blazers, and schoolgirl  skirts. As she showed a fabulous schoolgirl short skirt and top from designer Missoni, she added, “not everyone in here needs to wear this look” which received lots of laughter.

As the evening came to a close attendees continued to shop throughout the store with a percentage of proceeds benefiting Community Partner of Dallas.
