According to Camp Summit’s Marketing and Public Relations Manager Marissa Hoiles,
“Well, it’s oh-fish-ial, Camp Summit has participated in North Texas Giving Day since it began in 2009. NTGD has helped Camp Summit raise over $300,000 in the last 12 years. This has made camp possible for campers of all ages, and disabilities! It helped bring new programs like pickleball and fishing, made sure adaptive supplies and equipment are always available so camp is as amazing as possible for our remarkable campers.
“’We’ve watched the momentum and community support grow each year, from raising $17,000 in the first year, to over $70,000 in 2021. We’d never be able to raise these kinds of funds in one day without the help of the Communities Foundation of Texas and our generous North Texas Giving Day donors. They make camp possible!’ explains Carla Weiland, CEO of Camp Summit.
“In a typical year, we serve over 2,500 campers and their families throughout all programs, including 1,900 in week-long sessions. Like so many, Camp Summit has struggled to offer all programs and services we offered before COVID. But we continue to do what we do best and adapt. Like this summer where we offered Buddy Camp. We still gave campers with disabilities the same traditional camp activities they looked forward to such as archery, swimming, fishing, music, arts and crafts, sports and more. The only difference was, now they could share the fun with their buddy who helped them at camp.
“Camp Summit has also been able to keep a long tradition of never turning away a camper due to the severity of a disability, their age, or their inability to pay. Because of this Camp Summit relies on the generosity of friends in the community to assist us in achieving our mission and giving our remarkable campers a unique camping experience.
“In honor of Camp Summit’s 75th year of camping for remarkable people, our 2022 goal is $75,000! Help us ‘reel’ in our goal and keep our tradition alive by donating through North Texas Giving Day on Thursday, September 22. The first $25,000 donated will be generously matched by The Soroptimist Dallas Fund of The Dallas Foundation.”
