According to Dallas CASA Board Member Linda Swartz,
“At Dallas CASA, we’ve been re-envisioning the role of our agency and volunteers in the community. How can we best serve children who have experienced abuse or neglect? What are their greatest needs? And how can we and our community better stand up for them? We’re proud of the new mission statement that came from this process that Dallas CASA protects children and restores childhoods while encouraging child victims of abuse and neglect to develop their full potential and embrace the promise of a brighter future.
“Dallas CASA’s new focus of Protecting Children | Restoring Childhood gets to the heart of what Dallas CASA’s volunteers do as they work in courtrooms, foster homes, classrooms and more to help child victims thrive and reach their full potential. We want children to be surrounded with support from people who care and value them.
“Part of Dallas CASA’s re-envisioning has been events, too. Based on the tremendous success of our casual Champion of Children dinner last year at The Rustic, Dallas CASA is doing it again this year. I invite you to join us at The Rustic on Thursday, October 27, for dinner and an outdoor concert by Texas singer-songwriter Cory Morrow. The event raises funds for Dallas CASA. All proceeds support the volunteer advocates who serve children who have experienced abuse or neglect and are living in the protective care of the state.
“In 2021, we re-imagined the Champion of Children Award dinner from a formal, sit-down dinner to a casual, boots-optional outdoor concert. The evening was a chance for Dallas CASA’s friends and supporters to reconnect with one another after the previous difficult year and through their shared support for children living in foster care. The event felt like a homecoming, and so we’re doing it again. This year, we’ll enjoy a concert with Texas legend Cory Morrow.
“Morrow, based in Austin, is part of the ‘Texas Country’ or ‘Red Dirt’ music scene, which differentiates itself from Nashville-based country music. Morrow’s most well-known songs include ‘Lonesome,’ ‘21 Days’ and ‘Lead Me On.’ He sings about his own life and experiences and has performed in some of Texas’ most legendary venues, including Luckenbach and Gruene Hall.
“Dallas CASA has been busy the last two years dreaming of ways to better and more effectively advocate for children. We want all children to know their value and see clearly a solid future for themselves. We’re grateful to have the support of so many in the Dallas community as we spread our message of love, and we look forward to celebrating with you October 27.”
