According to the Mammogram Poster Girls Inc. Founder/President Sheri Mathis,
“The Mammogram Poster Girls are a small but mighty army of volunteers advancing the group’s mission to provide free mammograms and breast cancer diagnostics to uninsured/under-insured women in the southern sector of Dallas County. We’ve chosen this area to focus on because the need is greatest here. Women in this part of the county are more likely to receive a late-stage breast cancer diagnosis and to die of breast cancer than elsewhere in the county.
“Because we believe that where you live should not determine if you live, the Mammogram Poster Girls have instituted a program called Two-Fer Tuesday in 2020. Two-Fer Tuesday is a partnership created by the Mammogram Poster Girls with Methodist Health System and locally owned MWOB restaurants. Two-Fer Tuesdays are held the first Tuesday of each month. On each Two-Fer Tuesday, MPG provides a mammogram free of charge for under/uninsured patients, together with a meal/restaurant gift card purchased from a locally owned MWOB restaurant for each patient served on the Methodist Mobile Mammography Unit. The Two-Fer Tuesday events have been fully booked from day one, and very well-received, which is great news!
“However, while there is no charge to the recipients of the mammograms, each mammogram costs MPG $198. You don’t have to be a math whiz to see that this adds up quickly! MPG is seeking funding to continue this successful and effective program. Participation in North Texas Giving Day is a powerful tool to help MPG sustain this life-saving initiative. In addition to funds raised directly, our presence on this platform helps us present our mission to a wide audience and promote awareness of the great need in this area, something that is invaluable to a small organization with limited funds for marketing initiatives.
“The North Texas Giving Day event is part of a community of generous donors that have helped MPG provide over 1000 free mammograms to date. That’s potentially over 1,000 lives saved. That’s the power of North Texas Giving Day and The Mammogram Poster Girls!”
