MySweetSchoolDaze: Nexus Young Supporters Council Back-To-School

According to 2023 Nexus Young Supporters Council Chair Alyssa Franta,

“On behalf of Nexus Recovery Center, I would like to invite you to our Young Supporters Council (YSC) Back-to-School fundraiser on Tuesday, August 30. This event will benefit approximately 128 children (ages 0-12) enrolled in Nexus’ Child Development Center (CDC) and Pregnant and Parenting Women with Children program. Please join us at Palmer’s Hot Chicken in Lakewood (6465 East Mockingbird Lane, Suite 316, Dallas, TX 75214) from 5 to 7 pm. Free appetizers will be available. Admission is complimentary, but we ask that attendees donate school supplies appropriate for PreK to 6th Grade students.

“Nexus is one of the few treatment centers in the state of Texas that allows pregnant women, before and after childbirth, as well as parenting mothers to bring up to three children into treatment. At Nexus, we believe that providing a safe and secure place for children while their mothers are in treatment is an essential service. Children at Nexus receive support through our Child Development Center, a licensed daycare facility that provides a nurturing environment as well as education, care, and onsite counseling to help our clients’ children build resilience and thrive.

“I am in recovery and have been sober since May 19, 2018. As part of my recovery journey, I volunteered for the Nexus Auxiliary, where I chaired our children’s parties at the Child Development Center. Now I am thrilled to have been selected as the 2023 Chair of Nexus’ Young Supporters Council. This is a group for people ages 40 and under who are passionate about recovery and supporting Nexus Recovery Center. As a circle for community engagement, we help raise funds to support Nexus’ Child Development Center. We also encourage members to spread awareness of Nexus’ mission via social media, peer-to-peer fundraising, holiday events, and back-to-school drives.
