Mary Poss had worn many hats over the decades. In addition to serving eight years on the Dallas City Council, where she held the positions of Mayor Pro Tem and Acting Mayor, she has also co-chaired the Homeland Security Task Force of the National League of Cities, served as regional chair of the Homeland Security Committee of the North Central Texas Council of Governments and served on the Advisory Council of the National League of Cities, the Board of Directors of the National League of Cities and as Vice-Chair of the National League of Cities Transportation and Communications Committee.
In her spare time, she has also been a top-producing Ebby Halliday Realtors agent.
Now word has just arrived that Mary’s relationship with the late residential real estate founder/philanthropist Ebby Halliday has taken on a new dimension. She has just been named the executive director of the Ebby Halliday Foundation. And Mary is intimately acquainted with Ebby’s commitment to making a difference for good.
Their relationship goes back nearly 40 years, to a time when Ebby chaired the Keep Texas Beautiful program and Mary was on board with Clean Dallas.
According to Mary, “Ebby had a saying that she lived by that served her very, very well in her lifetime, ‘Do Something for Someone Every Day.’ I am incredibly excited to be a part of continuing, and furthering, Ebby’s impact on the North Texas community. Throughout her life, Ebby’s dedication to others remained constant. She was a trailblazer in business, however, a successful life to her was about much more that extraordinary sales figures. Ebby was passionate about serving the community she proudly called home.”
Continuing Ebby’s philosophy of service, the Ebby Halliday Foundation was created to carry on Ebby’s philanthropic vision by supporting charitable organizations, including those assisting women and children as well as individuals and families facing food and shelter insecurity.
Outlining her plans for her new position, Mary said, “Among my initial priorities will be making it very easy for each of the Ebby Halliday Companies’ approximately 2,000 agents to get involved with the foundation.”
