If ever there was a need for a three-day weekend, this Memorial Day holiday has come to the rescue. In addition to the devastating news of the week, there are countless non-profits, donors and vendors running out of steam after an eight-week marathon of fundraising.
Within the two-month period starting in April, North Texas charities saw a break in the pandemic in which they could cram in activities that had been postponed from the previous year. One person described the sudden surge of events: “It was like being an athlete sidelined for two years and then suddenly back on the playing field without so much as a warmup.”
Thanks to Memorial Day weekend opening to the summer respite, it will be a time to take a deep breath, regroup and recover from the challenges and losses of the past.
