North Texas Winter Freezing Ain’t Over Yet With Temperatures Nosediving Friday

Mar 9, 2022 3:30 PM by Jeanne Prejean

Don’t be fooled by Wednesday’s and Thursday’s beautiful temperatures in the upper 60s. The following days are going to be deep-diving faster than Mr. Freeze at Six Flags. And that’s exactly what to expect — freeze. Friday is a true game-changer with the high being barely in the 40s and the nighttime temps downing to the 20s. And there’s just a suggestion that the area might be scene of a wintry mix. But tell the kids that schools in all probability will be literally in class as usual.

While Dallas Arboretum staffers are scurrying around to cover Dallas Blooms‘ “birds in paradise” and beds with special frost protection blanketing, homeowners are using everything from sheets and towels to blankets and cardboard.

BTW, if you’re  wondering about plastic covers: Experts offer this Heloise hint type suggestion that “you can place plastic over the sheets or blankets to help keep warmth in, but never cover a plant with just plastic because it can do more harm than good.”

In the meantime, smart home thermostats are going to be throwing a fit.

So, don’t bid a fond farewell to winter’s cold shoulder. It ain’t over yet and you know the drill all too well by now — take care of people, pets, pipes, and plants.
