2022 Cherish The Children Luncheon Co-Chairs Beth Cholerton and Hannah May have just announced that WFAA Anchor Cynthia Izaguirre will receive the 2022 Caroline Rose Hunt Cherish The Children Award on the eve of Mother’s Day weekend.
Many know Cynthia from her hosting the station’s Wednesday’s Child’s weekly segments that help children in foster care find permanent homes.
As Cynthia put it, “The biggest lesson I’ve learned from Wednesday’s Child is that I need these children as much as they need me. Every child I meet inspires me to be a better human being.”
One poignant occasion was the interviewing of a boy named Dabron, “who struggled with taping and ended up in a corner of the room crying.”
Cynthia stopped the taping and “made a promise to myself that I would do whatever it took to get him adopted one day … even if it took a hundred more tapings.”
Not only was Dabron adopted at 12, but “he is now 16, driving, working and flourishing.”
In addition to her 11 years of hosting Wednesday’s Child, she, her husband and their twin son and daughter have added another son to the family through adoption.
On the subject of adoption, Cynthia explains, “We romanticize adoption, and we shouldn’t. It’s hard. The first two years were very trying, but I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world. I love my son so much. He’s going to do something very big in this world.”
During the luncheon Cynthia will be interviewed by fellow adoptive mother/Dallas CASA Board Chair/Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall.
Taking place at noon on Friday, May 6, at the Omni Dallas Hotel, the Dallas CASA fundraiser sponsorships and tickets are available here.
Funds raised through the lunch will support Dallas CASA’s mission to provide “advocates in the community and the courtroom for children in the protective care of the state so the youngsters can grow up in safe, permanent homes where they can thrive.
