JUST IN: VolunteerNow CEO Tammy Richards To Retire

Feb 21, 2022 5:30 PM by Jeanne Prejean

It was just announced that VolunteerNow CEO Tammy Richards will be retiring after eight years at the organization that has gained a reputation as “a national thought leader in volunteerism and one of the largest volunteer centers in the country.”

In addition to overseeing VolunteerNow’s 50th anniversary year that took place during the pandemic, Tammy “was instrumental in implementing and enhancing VolunteerNow’s proprietary volunteer matching platform, VOLY.org, that facilitates the connection between volunteers and non-profits.”

According to VolunteerNow Board Chair Bill Braxton, “We are grateful to Tammy for her eight years of outstanding service as CEO. She has led VolunteerNow’s transition from a traditional non-profit and volunteer center focused on providing services to North Texas to a nonprofit thought leader that uses technology to create a global impact.”

As a search gets underway to find Tammy’s successor to “take the organization to the level,” Tammy is planning “to continue serving on non-profit boards, particularly in education and family services, as well as on corporate and advisory boards in the educational technology space.”

In summing up her years with VolunteerNow, the former Texas Instruments VP said, “I am immensely proud of the work we have been able to accomplish at VolunteerNow during my tenure. This role has allowed me to combine three of my passions – technology, volunteerism and education. We introduced easy-to-use technology that has allowed VolunteerNow to mobilize critically needed volunteers to serve the important missions of both nonprofits and schools. I look forward to continuing my service to the community as a volunteer.”

Having earned her bachelor of science degree from Texas A&M and an MBA from Harvard Business School, Tammy was previously an associate dean and COO of SMU’s Lyle School of Business (2003-2012), President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star (2012-2013) and a board trustee of the Plano Independent School District (2010-2021).
