According to SPCA of Texas volunteer Jennifer Anderson,
“At the SPCA of Texas, we rescue, rehabilitate and rehome thousands of vulnerable, neglected and abused animals each year. As an avid volunteer, I see how donors make it possible for animals to blossom from sick and fearful to healthy and happy. Your support this holiday season can help these animals experience comfort and joy year-round.
“The SPCA of Texas foster program is particularly near and dear to my heart. The foster program relies on volunteers to open their hearts and homes to animals in need. Fosters supply the love, and the SPCA of Texas supplies everything else, including food, toys, blankets, kennels and veterinary care. Support from generous donors makes the foster program possible. Foster homes provide pets in need with a comfortable place to recover from medical conditions, learn socialization with humans and other animals or even live out their lives through ‘fospice’ care. Not only does fostering help the animal being fostered, but it also opens up space at the SPCA of Texas’ shelters, allowing the organization to help even more animals in need.
“Fostering has brought me so much joy by helping animals that need a little extra care in the comfort of a home. I have fostered several dogs for the SPCA of Texas. Each one has their own special story and has left their pawprint on my heart. Whether they have needed extra medical care or behavioral rehabilitation, I’ve found my calling in helping these animals heal and find homes.
“While each dog I’ve fostered has impacted my life, Hercules is the fospice dog that always brings the biggest smile to my face. Unlike my other foster dogs, where I provided a temporary refuge until they found their own loving homes, Hercules needed extra love and care because of his terminal illness. The SPCA of Texas and I knew that he deserved the chance to feel the love of a family. We bonded quickly and I was able to provide him a comfortable home to enjoy his time being spoiled and loved. What made it perfect was seeing the love and joy in his eyes for all that I was able to give to him. Fostering is a temporary commitment with permanent rewards; and the goodbye is always a happy ending.
“My Sweet Wish is that the North Texas community supports our foster program, and all of our other amazing programs and services, by donating online at www.spca.org/give. Funds will go directly towards helping homeless animals find happy endings through lots of love and care this holiday season and all-year long.
“I also hope more community members will consider becoming a foster or volunteering to make a difference in the lives of these pets. You can learn more at www.spca.org/foster.”
