With a tip of the hat to the “Bridgerton” novels and Netflix series, Methodist Richardson Medical Center Foundation held its Yellow and Black Tie Tele-Gala on Saturday, November 13, with a surprise auction item — the entire “Bridgerton” book series personalized by author Julia Quinn for the winning bidder. With this whimsy in mind, the following field report was provided by Lady Whistledown herself:

Dearest Readers,
The Richardson ton are abuzz with the news that the Methodist Richardson Medical Center Foundation’s virtual gala, The Yellow and Black Tie Tele-Gala, was a resounding success!
Comedy, incredible food and exclusive date-night Gala-in-a-Box for gala-goers set the mood for the evening. The Gala was broadcast live from the splendid Four Day Weekend Comedy Theater in Dallas. Encompass Health as well as other top sponsors joined the hospital President Ken Hutchenrider for a hybrid soiree at the theater. The comedic genius of Four Day Weekend delivered a show-stopping Oscars©-style performance, which kept guests entertained for nearly three hours. Earlier in the day exclusive baskets created by Dr Delphinium Designs and Events with charcuterie, wines, truffles and centerpieces were delivered to guests. And James Beard Award-nominated Chef Matt McCallister, of Homewood restaurant, prepared a sumptuous repast for the guests to marvel at in their abodes.

With the recent surges in COVID-19, most hospitals have had to cancel their events; however, Methodist Richardson, decided to pivot to a virtual gala. Under the direction of Honorary Co-Chairs David and Suzy Collins and Co-Chairs Scott Jessen and Dr. Derek Williams, the Foundation accomplished an incredible feat of executing such an occasion within just a few weeks, while managing to exceed fundraising goals!
Auctioneer Dan Newman partnered with the lovely Emily Zawisza from Four Day Weekend to auction off some marvelous items. I must add that Alaska Airlines managed to fly Dan in just in the nick of time for his auctioneer obligations! Trips to Santorini and a stay at Auberge du Soleil in Napa were just a sampling of items in the live auction.
The highlight, of course, was a relaxing Regency romance item for the most ardent enthusiast of Netflix’s Emmy Award winning “Bridgerton” series. I happen to know on good authority that the acclaimed best-selling historical romance author Julia Quinn even personalized the entire Bridgerton book series for the winning bidder. There is a surreptitious detail that I must divulge: Julia is a friend of an anonymous supporter of the MRMC Foundation!
The evening concluded with the recognition of MRMC Foundation dedicated supporters Tim and Missy Griffy with the prestigious Legacy Award.
Gentle reader, all things considered, it was a great night for Methodist Richardson Medical Center!
Yours truly,
Lady Whistledown
