From the pandemic up-and-down surges to the February Freezer, 2021 is likely a year that most North Texans have put away in the YBTF (Year Best To Forget) file.
But it appears that the rough-and-tumble year isn’t bowing out gracefully.
According to weather guessers, the final hours of 2021 (aka New Year’s Eve) have all the ingredients for a memorable time.
Friday will start off with temperatures in the 60s and near 70s. But just as folks are getting ready to watch the Lone Star NYE Celebration fireworks benefiting Children’s Health, scattered thunderstorms along with winds from the north are going to make for a rough-and-tumble night and New Year’s morning.
And you can forget the past days of T-shirts, cargo pants and schmoozing on patios. Saturday temperatures are predicted to impress a Winter Olympics gold medalist, with thermometers diving from 72 to 22 degrees.
Is there good news? Heck, yes! The thunderstorms and frigid weather aren’t gonna be kissing cousins. Chances are good that despite the wet stuff and the frigid chill, ice won’t coat area streets. Hey, be grateful for the little things.
Suggestion: If you’re in a faraway place like Monaco, Aspen or Palm Beach, make sure you have a friend/caretaker check on your plants, pipes and pets. As for those staying in North Texas, bust out those duvets, flannel jammies, turn off the sprinkler systems and stoke up those fireplaces. It’s hot chocolate and homemade chili time!
