Providing food for those who are homebound has been an everyday program way before North Texas got swatted by the pandemic for the Visiting Nurse Association of Texas (aka VNA). Thanks to its Meals on Wheels, 4,500 seniors who aren’t able to get out and about receive a meal and “friendly visit” each weekday.
In addition, VNA’s Hospice and Palliative Care provides “kind, compassionate care for those facing terminal illness and support to their families.”
And while volunteers are an integral part of the VNA’s programs, it still takes funds to support the efforts. That’s why its Celebrity Chef event is so vital to keep the wheels rolling, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Meals on Wheels and Hospice and Palliative Care programs.
For its 12th Annual Celebrity Chef two-in-one-day fundraisers, Celebrity Chef Co-Chairs Kersten Rettig and Clark Knippers have changed things up a bit. Instead of chef, they’ve arranged to have award-winning (i.e. James Beard Book Award and The Julia Child Award) food journalist Toni Tipton-Martin be on the menu, so to speak.
Cook’s Country magazine and television series editor-in-chief, Toni will provide a cooking demonstration from her library of cookbooks including “Jubilee,” “The Jemima Code,” “The Blue Grass Cookbook” and “Culinaria: The United States: A Culinary Discovery.”
There will be two optional seatings available for the Wednesday, March 30, event at VNA Haggerty Kitchen. Luncheon tickets are going for $750 per person, while dinner including a cocktail hour tickets are available for $1,000. However, since seating is very limited, it’s wise to get your reservation in pronto, or better yet sign up for a sponsorship.
BTW, if you don’t have the cash to attend the event but want to help, why not volunteer? VNA can always use an extra set of wheels.
