According to United To Learn Literacy Director Marisol Rodriquez,
“As United to Learn’s Director of Literacy, I know that fostering a love of reading through literacy instruction is one of the greatest gifts we can give as educators.
“This holiday season from Monday, November 22, through Wednesday, December 22, we are partnering with the team at Interabang Books for a special Holiday Book Drive to enhance campus libraries across our 49 Dallas ISD U2L elementary schools city-wide. Our goal is to provide new, multicultural books, in English and Spanish that reflect the diversity of our city and the students at Dallas ISD.
“Building libraries on campus that feature books of diverse perspectives where students can see themselves provides educators the building blocks toward greater cultural awareness and belonging. Children can start to see meaning within the pages of a book, and connect more deeply, leading to greater levels of comprehension. Providing books to children that help celebrate their identities is truly a gift that keeps on giving.
“Literacy is one of four core pillars at United to Learn. Research shows that reading proficiently by the end of third grade is key to a student’s long-term success. Unfortunately, we also know that COVID-19 erased years of progress in this direction.
“Help us combat unfinished learning by fostering literacy instruction and building school’s libraries.
“Here are three ways you can help!
- “Visit Interabang Books and support U2L’s book drive!
- “Volunteer with United to Learn to help sort, donate, and deliver books!
- “Donate to United to Learn to provide tutors and literacy instruction across Dallas ISD.
“Your generous gift will create a meaningful difference to ensure that every child has access to quality literacy resources ensuring a path to solid reading skills and providing a foundation of academic readiness that every child deserves.”
