According to SouthFair Community Development Corporation Assistant Hope Director Grace Feyisetan,
“Last year, on North Texas Giving Day, SouthFair sent a message to our donors that said, ‘We take dirt and turn it into homes/We take visions and turn them into realities/We take donations and revitalize South Dallas.’ It was true then, and it rings true now as we celebrate 30 years of service.
“Over the last three decades, SouthFair has lived by its mission: provide sustainable (affordable) housing for low and moderate-income families through multifamily, single-family, economic development, and through the connectivity of social services. With the help of NTGD, we’ve had many successes. This dependable platform continues to improve its methods for exposure and find innovate ways to provide opportunities for organized funding. This celebratory milestone for our nonprofit has allowed us to reflect on all we’ve been able to do. SouthFair was recently named a finalist at the D CEO‘s Capital One Impact Initiative Award for our ability to provide our workshops, counseling, and senior care services even through a pandemic. We recognized that our counsel from pre- through post-purchase provided much needed knowledge for our homeowners who want to keep their homes, be involved in their community, and feel the sense of security that comes with being a part of the SouthFair family.
“Our most recent homebuyer, Sylvia Green, shared her experience: ‘My home buying process began 2 years ago with the SouthFair team. I was introduced to MaryAnn Cuellar, who told me about the program and how they could help me buy a home. Her knowledge and guidance through the program gave me a wealth of information on the work that needed to be done to get me where I am today. It hasn’t been easy, but her pep talks kept me encouraged. The expertise of the entire team will truly be an asset to anyone wanting to stop renting and buy a home. Thank you South Fair team for all your help in the home buying process. Thank God for the blessing!’
“But it doesn’t end there, because to truly revitalize a community, our non-profit develops opportunities that exist outside of the home as well. Already established, a medical building is being occupied by Baylor Scott and White City Square, and its community partner to provide family services. Additionally, SouthFair is on the brink of making big improvements in a forgotten corner of South Dallas off Malcolm X Blvd and Al Lipscomb Way, with new retail and townhome developments. Capital funding from lenders is available, but we need to raise pre-development and ‘gap’ funds to make it happen. We are growing from providing homeownership counseling and building a handful of houses per year to managing these two large projects at once. Meeting our NTGD of goal of $30,000 will cover architectural plans, but more importantly, it will show funders that we have the support we need. We have the land. We have the know-how. We have the vision. NTGD can help us make the rest a reality! And for that, we say thank you!”
