According to Denton Animal Support Foundation Executive Director Kiara Hunter,
“Denton Animal Support Foundation celebrates its 15th anniversary this year – and what a year it’s been!
“Denton Animal Support Foundation (DASF) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to save more Denton area animals. We accomplish this by focusing on four major components, the City of Denton Animal Shelter, Lake Dallas Animal Shelter, Education and the Denton community. The financial support we receive from North Texas Giving Day helps provide adoption subsidies to the shelters, emergency veterinary care, free rabies vaccines for low income households, discounted microchips, emergency pet food, heartworm treatment vouchers for shelter pets and other resources to help us save pets who have nowhere else to turn. We are their safety net. But we can’t do it alone.
“Since 2010, North Texas Giving Day has been our largest annual fundraiser. Financial support received from NTGD provides crucial funds used to support DASF’s lifesaving shelter support programs and community animal welfare programs.

“We aim to give shelter animals in our community more than a home, we aim to give them a second chance for a better life. By lowering adoption fees for harder to place pets, we are connecting an animal with someone who will love them forever. We are creating a relationship that will enrich both lives in countless ways. A single animal has the power to spread joy, to enable people, and in turn, create a more loving community.
“When COVID-19 hit our community, DASF quickly adapted to continue our lifesaving work. We knew COVID-19 would bring challenges – including financial instability for pet families. We immediately partnered with the Linda McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center to open an Emergency Pet Food Pantry where people can receive the food and supplies they need to keep the pets they love. This action helped reduce the number of animals surrendered to the shelter by 85%. The pantry has fed over 6,000 pets in the past year. DASF is being inundated with Emergency Medical assistance requests from the community, and the need is only increasing.

“Our accomplishments are made possible by members of the community and the support DASF receives during NTGD. While this has been a challenging time for so many, people like you make it possible for the Denton Animal Support Foundation to keep moving forward in our commitment to animals. DASF has directly impacted over 30,000 animals. We remain committed to being here for animals and the people who love them.
“Behind every adoption, every new relationship forged, there is often a challenging journey. You can help build the path for this journey by supporting DASF’s missions and programs that save and enhance lives. With your support, no animal has to be left behind. Please support thousands of pets that need our help to find their new beginning by giving to Denton Animal Support Foundation this North Texas Giving Day. For the love of animals.”
