Hospice has been a saving grace providing comfort for those in their final days and hours. Unfortunately, COVID has resulted in more than 56,000 deaths in Texas alone and an even greater need for hospice. But due to restrictions placed on hospitals, many times patients have not been able to be surrounded by their families and loved ones. For this reason, they have requested being transferred to residential hospice care. In Dallas the only in-patient hospice center is the T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center.
The increased demand on the Center has placed a special importance on its Each Moment Matters Luncheon fundraiser that was scheduled for Tuesday, September 21, at Brook Hollow Golf Club.
But once again COVID has affected the Center’s plans. According to Luncheon Co-Chairs Christie Carter, Beth and Dan Plumlee and Junior Villanueva and Honorary Co-Chairs Sammye and Mike Myers, “As we have evaluated the current situation with Forefront Living Leadership, we feel it is most prudent to move our event to a virtual platform. The Each Moment Matters event will be a fully online, virtual celebration that will give you the best seat in the house.”
In addition to celebrating the 2021 honorees and sponsors and the showcasing of the transformative end-of-life care supported by the event, there will be “an online auction for guests that will take place from Saturday, September 11 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22.”
Included in the auction are a “World Traveler Package (five nights for two at either Tuscany, Bali, Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Paris or Greece),” a virtual art lesson with former Bond girl/Emmy and Golden Globe winner/Dr. Quinn’s Jane Seymour, a lunch or cocktail event for up to 20 with Junior at The Garden Gate, a hand-painted Tory Burch handbag with your pet’s image, a five-night stay at Tuscany’s Cortona Resort and Spa with unlimited access to the Wellness Center, and a get-together for 10 with Sip Trip and UT grad Jeff Porter’s providing six selection of mutually agreed upon wine (two bottles each).
If you haven’t already signed up to be part of the main event on September 21 on your screen or the auction, you’re not too late. Just sign up here or contact Forefront Living Foundation’s Sarah Jones at 214.355.9584.
