It was less than five weeks ago that Texas was in a deep freeze thanks to Winter Storm Uri. As the state thawed out, the devastation left in the storm’s wake had been mind boggling. To help nonprofits face the daunting challenge of recovery, Reliant has been ramping up efforts to help.
In addition to co-sponsoring/co-founding Camila and Matthew McConaughey’s “We’re Texas” ReliefFund fundraiser Sunday night, Reliant and its parent company NRG Energy have also kicked in $10M in relief for Texas communities including community support, customer support and employee support.
One of the North Texas recipients is The Family Place, which today received a check for $100K, which will go toward “repairing the nonprofit’s largest emergency shelter that was severely damaged during the storm. …The repairs include rebuilding transitional housing apartments and emergency shelter bedrooms, replacing ceilings, sheet-rock and flooring and providing new furnishings and mattresses.”
Other North Texas nonprofits benefiting from the funds include Catholic Charities of Fort Worth, East Texas Food Bank, Metrocrest Services, Mission Arlington, Network of Community Ministries, North Texas Food Bank and Tarrant Area Food Bank.
