To celebrate this snowy and cold Presidents Day, here’s a little experiment that you might want to try — making ice bubbles. It’s not every winter that North Texans have the right frigid environment to create these little works of art. But thanks to the incredible freezing temperatures and Minnesota-based photographer/physics and astronomy professor Dr. Mike Shaw, you’ll know the secret to make a beautiful crystallized globe:
- 1 1/2 cup tap water
- 1/2 cup dish soap
- 2 tbsp. glycerin (If you don’t have any glycerin lying around the house, you might want to try some corn starch.)
- A container
- A spoon
- A plastic straw
Mike’s instructions are so simple that you’ll feel like an old pro in a matter of minutes.
After a few tries, you’ll find yourself creating little crystal-like globes of beauty. Take photos to remember that even an ice invasion has its good points.
