It’s hard to imagine that it was a little over two years ago that Caroline Rose Hunt passed away. While her death left a void in North Texas charitable leadership, her philanthropy lives on through her children.
In appreciation of the services provided for their mother and so many others at The T. Boone Pickens Hospice Center, The Sands Family Foundation has provided a gift of $250,000 to Faith Presbyterian Hospice’s Forefront Living Foundation that will support the T. Boone Pickens Hospice Center Endowment Fund.
According to Rosewood Corporate Giving Director Lynn Fisher, “Mrs. Hunt’s family is so grateful for the wonderful care and compassion she received at T. Boone Pickens Hospice Center, and they wanted to do something very special to show their gratitude. This gift to the endowment fund will help ensure other families can receive the same excellent care during their time of need.”
As a show of appreciation in turn, the lobby of the Harold Simmons Inpatient Care Center will be named in her honor, with one of Caroline’s quotes displayed: “With a friend you can laugh, you can weep, you can pray.”
Faith Presbyterian Hospice Executive Director John Mezo said, “It’s an incredible honor to provide the gift of hospice to any family. However, when we have the opportunity to provide for a family who is invested in our mission, it’s simply overwhelming.”
Opened in 2017, the 9-acre campus with 36 patient care suites with balconies overlooking a 5-acre lake has provided a respite for individuals during their final days, as well as assistance for their families during this period.
As Forefront Living Foundation Executive Director Tena Burley put it, “We are grateful to Steve and Marcy Sands and the entire Sands Foundation. Since opening in 2017, T. Boone Pickens Hospice Center has proven to be a valuable community resource, and the endowment allows us to continue that exception work for which the center has become known.”
The Sands’ gift is ideally timed, since it “qualifies for the match made by an anonymous donor, who pledged to match all gifts and pledges up to $5M made by Sunday, February 28.”
