According to Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) Board Member/VNA Advisory Committee Chair/Volunteer Cici Weinmann,
“The Visiting Nurse Association of Texas (VNA) Meals on Wheels program provides meals to 4,600 clients throughout the entire 1,000 square miles of Dallas County. Since COVID-19 began, the number of hungry seniors in need of meals has skyrocketed and the numbers continue to rise. VNA needs volunteers to deliver meals to the hungry, homebound seniors we serve. There are also opportunities for virtual deliveries which are phone calls to check in on clients done from the comfort and safety of volunteers’ homes. Delivering a route takes approximately one hour and virtual routes typically only take about 30 minutes.

“The majority of VNA Meals on Wheels volunteers are 50+ and following the onset of COVID-19, many volunteers have been hesitant to return to delivering due to their own high-risk status of contracting the virus. Please consider delivering a route to serve our most vulnerable population. VNA volunteers are often the only people our recipients see or talk to all day! You can make a huge impact in the lives of our community’s seniors. To help out, please go to www.vnatexas.org for more information or go to volunteer.vnatexas.org to sign up to deliver a route!”
