With all the worries about the virus cousins (i.e., COVID-19 and the flu), there are other health issues that can’t be ignored. Texas Health Resources‘ and UT Southwestern Medical Center‘s Southwestern Health Resources has pointed out that “heart attacks and strokes don’t stop during a pandemic.”
According to the American College of Cardiology’s CardioSmart, the symptoms that warrant immediate attention for a quicker recovery and to limit damage are:

- Heart attack symptoms:
- Chest pain
- Difficulty breathing
- Discomfort in chest, arms, back, neck, shoulder or jaw
- Stroke symptoms:
- Loss of balance
- Confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
- Numbness, weakness or loss of movement in your face, leg or arm, especially on one side
If you have any of these symptoms, call 911 immediately. Don’t delay because you are worried about going to the hospital for medical attention. The area healthcare centers are taking incredible safety measures to assure your protection from infection.
And if you already have a heart condition or have questions, call your doctor. It’s amazing how telehealth services have resolved many concerns without the need for an in-person appointment.
