According to Visible Unity Inc. President Pam Fields,
Visible Unity has been around only a short time, which is why it is important to partner with organizations who help to increase our reach, exposure, and financial capacity. North Texas Giving Day is one such partner. Through our participation in NTXGD, we have increased our visibility (no pun intended!) across the Metroplex, furthered our mission of dismantling racism, and raised funds to support the work of healing this country.
This year, 2020 will be our third year of participating in NTXGD, and as with prior years, the decision to participate was a no-brainer. From year one to two we saw a jump in unique visitors, who visited our NTXGD profile page and website (visibleunityinc.org) to learn more about our “why” – why we believe strongly in a racism-free America – and our programs. As a result, we added 20 more email addresses to our distribution list and even matched email addresses to real-life individuals at subsequent programs. That for us was a memorable moment! Also, for the first time in our five-year existence, we increased our programming beyond the city center to include a north Dallas suburb. Very exciting!
No doubt about it, participating in NTXGD furthers our mission. Let me share one example. Last year when we downloaded our final donations list, we wrote our thank you cards. When we got to one particular donor, his name was not familiar to us, but he’d written a comment praising our work. We were honored and immediately reached out to him. We shared more about our why and even talked about future plans. The call and information were well received, earning Visible Unity another mouthpiece in the community. That connection probably would not have happened if not for our profile page under the Social Justice section, listing our mission.
Finally, finances. Again, we are a small non-profit, but we have a big mission and big programs. Funds received on NTXGD make it possible to execute our programs. Hearts are changed when people participate in our Unity Process. Perspectives are broadened when people participate in Safe Space Conversations or the City-Wide Block Party. Long held beliefs are challenged when people come together for Prayers for Peace. The work of eradicating racism is “a long arc,” but Visible Unity is committed to the work of healing and reconciliation. And with the funds received from NTXGD, we inch that much closer to a unified America.
We are excited about NTXGD 2020, and we’re already hard at work planning our approach to this must-participate event. The possibilities are endless; the rewards, guaranteed!
