North Texas Giving Day Booster: St. Philip’s School And Community Center

Sep 16, 2020 9:30 AM by Jeanne Prejean

According to St. Philip’s School And Community Center Individual and Alumni Giving Manager Breanna Turnley,

Breanna Turnley*

For nearly 75 years, St. Philip’s School And Community Center has been an agent for positive change in South Dallas. We have participated in North Texas Giving Day for ten years, and each year the campaign continues to be a vessel for our ministry to flourish and be a shining light for our students, families, and neighbors in the community.

Our mission to transform the world by faith, education and service is possible because of our dedicated faculty, staff, and volunteers who value St. Philip’s mission and choose to join us in this important, rewarding work. We raised over $117,000 last year and reached our goal of 100% participation among our students, faculty/staff, and trustees.

Change agents and longtime supporters, Juliette and Mark Moussa, have seen firsthand what an investment in education can do for a child and their future: “[We] have seen from every angle the magic of St. Philip’s and the change brought about in the children’s and families lives the school serves. We are proud to serve the children of St. Philip’s.”

The generous support of our donors allows St. Philip’s to shape both the academic and spiritual development of students. The emphasis on self-love and love of learning provides a solid foundation for their lives. In a survey of over 500 alumni, 90% ranked chapel as the most valuable aspect of their St. Philip’s experience.

Additionally, donations champion education and opportunity for students providing an environment of learning, love, and respect. 100% of our alumni complete high school and 96% attend college.

Funds raised also helped St. Philip’s serve 1,500 of our neighbors, making significant impact in nutritional needs for thousands of families each year. Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry at St. Philip’s School and Community Center is a client-based food pantry located on our campus. It is designed to provide service with dignity by allowing our food insecure neighbors to shop in a grocery store environment twice a month. Gifts made help fight hunger in over 650 households in South Dallas.

The compassionate support of our donors on North Texas Giving Day empowered us to combat hunger and poverty and to champion education and opportunity in South Dallas. No mission is too great to conquer when we join forces!
