According to Opening Doors For Women In Need supporter Onika S. Brisco,
Nonprofit organization, Opening Doors For Women In Need, will enhance self-esteem, build confidence, empower women, and help them realize that “when one door closes another one opens”. And this could not have been all the truer during the pandemic COVID-19.
With its corporate office in the Como Community of Fort Worth, Opening Doors For Women In Need has been serving women, and families in Tarrant County and abroad for over 16 years.
Founded by an African-American, single mother; Director of Opening Doors For Women In Need, Dr. Sandra R. Stanley is no stranger of trying to navigate through life successfully while facing mounting odds. Her authentic motivation chiseling its foundation, ODWIN was created to provide education and services to those that have experienced emotional trauma during re-entry from prison and rehabilitation programs.
Included is transitional living for women, to help prevent them from returning to an environment that may contribute to further criminal behavior; and also making available support systems and tools for self-sufficiency.
The Organization has proven head-and-shoulders above the average prison recidivism rate of 67% in the State of Texas, by having a 97% success rate of women completing the transitional living program, having secured gainful employment, being consistent in learned healthy life skills, onto moving into their own apartment that is fully furnished by the Organization if the women so choose. Overall they have become amazing success stories and a glowing contribution to their community.
ODWIN has the greatest position in making an incredible difference. Imagine being released from prison after several, or in fact many years, knowing that you are faced with an uphill battle in finding a place to live, or obtaining gainful employment. ODWIN gets many resident-clients that feel defeated upon entering its program. However, with the help of great community movements such as the yearly North Texas Giving Day event by Communities Foundation of Texas; hundreds of wonderful people and supporters connect with non-profits such as ODWIN bringing a greater awareness of how the organization is making positive change in women’s lives for stronger more vibrant communities. Successes range from, ladies having served an 18-year sentence in prison, to now working with the same employer for over three years, purchasing their own vehicle, and qualifying for homeownership for the very first time; and there are others that become managers in their place of employment because of excellent work ethics, and also entrepreneurs and business owners.
You see ODWIN is a debt free organization, and solely operates on donations from generous partners, financial supporters, and community movements such as North Texas Giving Day. Each year during this event ODWIN’s goal is $10,000 dollars, surpassing last year’s goal! It is through this type of support that the Organization can continue impacting many women’s lives with self-sufficiency, empowerment and sober-free living programs.
