According to Faith In Texas Executive Director Akilah S. Wallace,
Making a charitable gift, contribution, donation, sowing a seed, paying it forward, unlocking resources. No matter what you call it, your financial support is a powerful demonstration of your commitment to make the world a better place. And we sincerely thank you.
At Faith in Texas, we envision a world in which economic, racial, and social equity enable everyone to live in complete liberation to pursue their divine purpose and participate fully in the systems and processes that govern their lives. In other words, I’m not good until everyone in society is equally good. Thanks to funds raised on North Texas Giving Day in 2018, 2019, and on North Texas Giving Day Now! Giving Tuesday, Faith in Texas has partially funded a grassroots movement centered around the lived experience of our community’s most vulnerable and marginalized people. Thanks to donations ranging from $15 to $1,000+ from generous individuals and congregations of faith, the amplified voices of formerly incarcerated, immigrant, and economically disadvantaged North Texans have helped to keep thousands of people out of jail for low-level offenses, protected them from predatory lending, offered support during ICE detainments and court hearings, and saved countless families from the threat of eviction following stay-at-home orders as a result of this unexpected pandemic. We’re also training laypeople, clergy, and community members to organize, train and mobilize thousands of voters in November and in preparation for the 2021 Texas Legislative Session.
In the past, North Texas Giving Day has made up a small percentage of revenue for Faith in Texas. However, with the nation finally recognizing the inequities Black people face day-to-day, we are leaning on our faith beliefs that North Texas community members will choose Faith in Texas as an opportunity to 1) invest in the leadership of Black women, 2) stand in solidarity with those most impacted by COVID-19, systems of oppression, poverty, the lack of affordable housing, job insecurity and the threat of incarceration or death because of the color of their skin, and 3) activate the part of you that seeks to move beyond asking “how can I help” to action that moves us towards the complete liberation of all Texans.
Faith in Texas is seeking to beat our 2019 donation total by four times the amount. Help us raise $20,000 to amplify marginalized voices and mobilize thousands of voters in November! Please make a donation to grow and sustain Faith in Texas by funding our powerful movement on North Texas Giving Day.
