North Texas Giving Day Booster: Dwell With Dignity

Sep 16, 2020 1:30 PM by Jeanne Prejean

According to Dwell With Dignity Communications Manager and Thrift Studio Manager Caitlin Miller,

Caitlin Miller*

This year, the importance of “home” has become undeniable.

As 2020 has us spending more and more time inside our dwellings, a functional and comfortable living environment is an essential, basic need. Dwell with Dignity provides this and so much more to families who may have previously been sleeping all together on a single blow up mattress with no toiletries, groceries, or basic amenities.

Can you imagine having no bed of your own, no dining room table to gather for dinner as a family, and no secure home to host play dates or celebrate birthdays or holidays? Families that have encountered the worst situations not only need to have their basic needs meet, but they desperately need an environment that offers and encourages comfort, inspiration and a sense of hope. This hope penetrates into other areas of the family’s lives, resulting in self-sufficiency for the parents and improved academic performance and behavior for the children. Dwell with Dignity believes that hope begins at home, and by giving families this transformational experience, parents and children alike can thrive in their new environment, giving them the energy to focus on other important aspects of their life and future goals.

Poverty rates in Dallas are currently widespread, holding the third highest child poverty rate, with 40% of children living at or below the federal poverty line. Dwell with Dignity seeks to end family homelessness by partnering with accountability-based agencies to gift deserving families with a fully-furnished home interior to bring transformative design to those who have formerly been homeless, ending family’s cycles of poverty one household at a time.

Dwell with Dignity relies on the generous donations of our supporters year-round, and North Texas Giving Day is a unique opportunity to take part in an exciting and essential community-wide event of giving. This year, Dwell with Dignity’s North Texas Giving Day goal is $35,000, which would cover the entire cost of a family home transformation for seven local families.
