According to Community Partners Of Denton County volunteer and website administrator Calvin L. Pacleb,
When it is determined that a child can no longer live safely at home, the child is removed from their residence and the State of Texas is given temporary custody. Tragically, the circumstances surrounding these removals are heartbreaking, where maltreatment in the form of abuse, neglect or exploitation have been discovered. In these moments of crisis, the dedicated and compassionate staff of Child Protective Services (CPS), a division of The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, will ensure the safety of the child by placing them in foster care temporarily.
When removals occur, the child will often leave their home with nothing more than the clothes they are wearing. Our mission at Community Partners of Denton County is to provide all new emergency items to these children as they transition to a safe and healthy environment. Our storerooms, named The Rainbow Rooms, are where these critical items are stocked and include such urgently needed resources as clothes, shoes, and toiletries to name a few. Indirectly, our Rainbow Rooms also provide some relief for those foster parents who may be struggling financially by offsetting a portion of the expenses associated with caring for a child.
These supplies are a necessity for many of the children who may still display the sad, unforgettable signs of abuse and neglect. Understandably, removing this vulnerable population from their home can be an incredibly traumatic experience for the child and often produce overwhelming feelings of confusion, helplessness, and guilt. We feel that these rooms, and the rainbow symbol, offer a ray of hope to these children and provide them with a sense of peace and the awareness that someone cares.
Community Partners of Denton County, which is an all-volunteer organization, will participate in North Texas Giving Day for the first time this year. Thank you, My Sweet Charity, for the opportunity to share our story with those who wish to support local nonprofits and make a positive impact on the lives of their neighbors. And, thank you to Communities Foundation of Texas for putting on this extraordinary event and working to build thriving communities for all. We look forward to participating in North Texas Giving Day this year and for many more years to come.
