With the Dallas Alumnae Association of Kappa Kappa Gamma‘s 2020 virtual “Caring For the Community” Tablescapes taking place on Tuesday, October 13, at 11 a.m., final details have just been revealed about the “key” honorees and keynote speaker. It will be a really big day for the sisters, since the date is also the 150th anniversary of the sorority!
This year’s speaker will be best-selling author/Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker Jennifer Ash Rudick, whose sixth book, “Summer to Summer: Houses By The Sea,” was released just this past spring.
Receiving the Platinum Key Award will be longtime community volunteer/board member/fundraiser Carol Huckin, who has been past president of Equest Women’s Auxiliary, CARE, Marianne Scruggs Garden Club, Junior League Garden Club and the Kappa Alumnae Association.
Being posthumously honored with the Alumnae Achievement Award will be the late Leslie Squair Baker, who not only co-chaired the 2009 Tablescapes but also supported the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Wipe Out Kids Cancer. In memory of Leslie, “Leslie Squair Baker White Elephant Christmas Gathering” will take place Friday, October 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. with 100% of the proceeds going to Tablescapes. Tickets are $50 and reservations are required due to a limited capacity. The marketplace will include some of Leslie’s favorite things.
Other fundraising activities associated with 2020 Tablescapes include underwriting opportunities, 150th anniversary yard signs, purchasing one of Jennifer’s books, donations and a raffle for six incredible goodies including a Nantucket summer cottage getaway!
BTW, if you have a memorable table setting, you have the chance to show it off. It’s simple and costs a $25 donation. You just need to submit a video up to 15 seconds long. “Pictures should be high-resolution and a minimum of 3 mgs or 1200 x 1200 pixels in a JPEG or PNG file format. Mobile phone pictures are acceptable.” In return you’ll get a raffle ticket for your fav item.
This year’s fundraiser will benefit Advocates for Community Transformation, Camp Summit, CitySquare Trac, Dallas Afterschool, Exodus Ministries, Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation, Literacy Achieves, Mercy Street, West Dallas Community School and Wilkinson Center.
