According to Texans Can Academies President/CEO Richard Marquez,
At Texans Can Academies, we are proud of our reputation for giving a second chance to students who have struggled in a traditional high school setting. Texans Can Academies serves as a dropout-recovery resource by welcoming students from all walks of life, grades 9-12, and empowers them to be lifelong thinkers while ensuring a path to economic independence. We have 14 dropout-recovery schools across Texas, eight of which are in North Texas.
Our mission is to provide the highest quality education to students so they can pursue their dreams while removing barriers that keep them from attending school. We offer our students uniforms, breakfast and lunch, eyeglasses, and other basic human needs free of charge to them, and our Dropout Prevention & Recovery Experts work with our students to address their particular issue and bring them back to the classroom.
Right now, the big question for all schools is what the plan will be when students return to class, whether in-person or virtually, in just a few short weeks. We are doing everything possible to ensure our students and staff can return to school while keeping themselves and their families safe. We have a plan in place for both a virtual return and an in-person return. As circumstances in our world are changing daily, this preparedness is key.
Not only do we want our students physically healthy when they return to school, but we also want to ensure they are staying healthy mentally. Mental wellness has always been a top priority of ours even before this pandemic, but is more important now than ever. Our student counseling services are available to all of our students to help them with depression, mental illness and any other issues, big or small, they may face. Students can call a telephone number 24 hours, seven days a week, year-round for emergencies or to schedule online or off-campus counseling appointments. Texans Can Academies covers the cost of the services so our students may receive the confidential crisis intervention help they may need at any time.
All we do for our students is made possible by the support of our community. We ask that if you are interested in donating or learning more about Texans Can Academies’ mission, please visit www.texanscan.org and help our students receive a second chance at earning their high school diploma and following their dreams.
