According to Wilkinson Center Executive Director Anne Reeder,
On behalf of the Friends of Wilkinson Center and Friends President Caitlin Morris Hyatt, it is with a heavy heart that I announced the cancellation of our 2020 Spirit of Taos fundraiser. With the health and well-being of our supporters our highest priority, the event originally scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2020, had to be canceled due the concern for the health of our guests and staff.
While we will miss the food, music and friends that always make the Spirit of Taos an unforgettable evening, Wilkinson Center is still open and fully operating for those who need us. Our food pantry is serving more families than ever with curbside delivery; most of our adult education classes are now virtual; and our annual Carlin Morris Back-to-School Shoe Drive will continue with gift certificates purchased from Shoe Carnival. For the low-income families we serve, tough times just got a lot tougher; more than ever they are counting on our help.
With last year’s event raising $200,000, we hope the community will still consider supporting the organization by donating the cost of their Spirit of Taos ticket or table into a donation to Wilkinson Center in order to reach this same goal.
Presenting sponsor American Airlines is leading the charge with a $25,000 gift, with the hope that others will join them to ensure Wilkinson Center continues to provide essential services to its clients.
Since Wilkinson Center opened in 1982, one thing continues to be at the heart of everything they do – people. From tireless volunteers and supporters to the folks in our community who turn to Wilkinson Center for help. Thank you to the community for supporting the Wilkinson Center’s mission of providing the people who need our services with paths to improve their lives.
Forward, together – we can all lead the way on the path to bigger and better things.
