The Junior Leaguers of Dallas’ annual Milestones Luncheon usually takes place in November. But the 2020 Luncheon Chair Erin Pope and Sustaining Chair Candace Winslow decided that due to concerns over the COVID-19 situation, it would be wise to move it to the spring… Friday, March 26, to be exact, at the Hilton Anatole.
Actually, it worked perfectly. It seems that the JLD-ers have “been working for several years to transition it to a spring event.”

But that move of dates didn’t hold them back from announcing that Diane Scovell will be the 2021 Sustainer of the Year.
The award is presented to a JLD-er who “has been a milestone in the life of the Dallas community as a colleague, mentor or friend.”
According to JLD-er Sandy Ammons, Diane “truly epitomizes much of what makes Dallas great — perseverance, hard work, leadership, innovation and generosity. Equipped with her JLD training, Diane dove into the Dallas community and her efforts have inspired others to follow in her footsteps.”
During her 40 years with the JLD, she has held a variety of positions including Ball Chair, Research and Development Chair, Project Chair, Endowment Committee, Sustaining Advisor and many others.
But she has not limited herself to just the JLD. Just a few of the other organizations that have benefited from Diane’s involvement include The Laura Bush Institute for Women, Texas Trees Foundation, Crystal Charity Ball, Goodwill Industries of Dallas, The Senior Source, Children’s Medical Center Foundation, Friends of Fair Park, Dallas Summer Musicals, UT Southwestern Circle of Friends and the Scovell Scholarship Foundation.
Her efforts have earned such recognition and awards like The Senior Source’s “Spirit of Generations Award 2017, the Texas Tech Lauro F. Cavazos Award in 2016 and the Tri Delta pine Tree Community Service Award in 2006.
