According to Austin Street Center CEO Dan Roby,
Austin Street Center is excited to announce a new date for our 20th Annual Humble Beginnings Luncheon featuring Tony and Grammy Award-Winning performer, Leslie Odom Jr. As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak in March, Austin Street Center’s spring signature luncheon, originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, was postponed to the fall, and will now be held on Friday, September 25, at 11:30 a.m. at the Omni Hotel Dallas.
Rescheduling this year’s luncheon was a very difficult but prudent decision that followed recommended guidelines. Our first priority was the health and safety of our guests and the wider community, especially as we navigate these unprecedented times. This is especially true in the wake of the recent crisis, where we have seen not only an increase in the need for our services, but also the need for new and innovative service models that adhere to social distancing guidelines.
As keynote speaker, Odom Jr. will take the stage with a combined performance and moderated talk at this year’s luncheon, chaired by Co-Chairs Richie Butler and Chris Kleinert.
Best known for his breakout role as ‘Aaron Burr’ in the smash hit Broadway musical, “Hamilton,” Odom Jr. received a 2015 Drama Desk Award nomination and won the Tony Award for “Best Actor in a Musical” for his performance. He also won a Grammy Award as a principal soloist on the original cast recording.
The Humble Beginnings Luncheon celebrates Austin Street Center’s work in providing safe shelter and basic needs that helps Dallas’ most vulnerable homeless neighbors bring an end to their homeless experience. Funds raised at the luncheon will go toward these basic needs and to help our program reach Dallas’ most vulnerable. Approximately 700 people are expected to attend.
