According to Vogel Alcove President/CEO Karen Hughes,
We are heartbroken to announce the Vogel Alcove 2020 Arts Performance Event on Saturday, May 2, is cancelled as a result of the crisis our country is facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This cancellation is a very serious hardship for our mission. The Arts Performance Event is our largest funding source, attended by 1,000 supporters, raising a significant amount of our budget each year for the comprehensive programs and services we provide homeless children and families.
Sponsorship gifts make a critical impact on our work as we navigate this difficult time. As we move forward, we ask supporters to consider giving a donation to our Restoring Families Campaign to support our families through this crisis.
In times of crisis, homeless children and families are at extremely high risk due to lack of employment stability, medical resources, stable shelter, and access to food and household items.
By connecting with our families to learn their greatest needs and how we can meet those needs, “Vogel Eats” was created to support our families who have moved into housing. We cook food in our kitchen, and our staff delivers approximately 300 meals (breakfast and lunch) to 41 families daily. We deliver “Vogel Bags:” Household supplies, toilet paper, diapers, wipes, sanitation supplies, clothes, activities, and kids’ toys. The childcare center serves parents employed by essential businesses so they can return to work and not lose their job. “Summer Camp” opened early, serving school age children: Kindergarten through 5th grade. Using virtual technology, we are providing developmental therapy for the children unable to return to Vogel Alcove and we are providing case management and mental health work for our parents.
Together with you, we can overcome this challenge and continue our mission to help young children and families overcome the lasting and traumatic effects of homelessness.
