While North Texans tried to recover from the morning’s thank-you-way-too-much rain and make their way home, Family Compass’ stalwarts were headed to NorthPark’s Diptyque for the announcement of the North Star Luncheon plans.
Once inside all cares and frets of the day’s dreary and cold conditions hit the rails. Inside this shoebox-size jewel box salon were wonderful treasures of colors and fragrances. There was also a covered easel. What was behind the throw cloth? Why the announcement of the speaker for the luncheon.
But before Luncheon Co-Chairs Natalie Metzger Lesikar and Kelly Piland revealed the contents of the easel, they announced that the Family Compass fundraiser would take place on Monday, April 27, at the Dallas Country Club with The Moody Foundation receiving the 2020 North Star Award and Shelley Slater serving as emcee.
So enough with the build up! With Family Compass CEO Ona Foster and Diptyque Store Director Jacob Aguirre smiling on the sidelines, the unveiling revealed that the onstage guest would be Pat Smith.
Forget the fact that this gorgeous and smart lady has been been married to comedian/actor Martin Lawrence and NFL standout/business entrepreneur Emmitt Smith. She is a total 21st century standout having created Pat Smith Enterprises and Treasure You, a non-profit organization that inspires women to pursue their second chance in life despite difficult circumstances and setbacks. In 2017, Smith published her first book, ‘Second Chances: Finding Healing for Your Pain, Regaining Your Strength, Celebrating Your Life.'”
According to Ona, “We are so thrilled to have Pat Smith as our featured speaker at this year’s luncheon, as she shares inspirations that rose from the challenges in her life and the importance of celebrating second chances. We are also delighted to recognize Honorary Chair Kathryn Woods, as well as the Moody Foundation, for their tremendous support in expanding our programs to address the growing need and burgeoning wait lists.”
And as you know so well, there are perks associated with being a part of the event. Check here for more info.
The date of the luncheon was strategically planned to coincide with April’s Child Abuse Prevision Month. Its sole purpose is “to prevent child abuse and neglect through its home mentoring programs and Community Education and Outreach.”
