The usual fear of every party planner is, “What if nobody shows up?” Well, on Friday, December 6, it was just the opposite in the Mary Kay Suite at the Hilton Anatole. The get together was to celebrate Pat McEvoy’s reign as Crystal Charity Ball chair. While the invitation read that the partying would start at 5:30 p.m., a gaggle of the CCB-ers showed up at 5 even before Pat.
No problem. After days of putting the finishing touches on the Saturday’s South American Mosaic ball, nothing could rattle Pat and her committee chairs (Anne Besser, Jennifer Dix, Kim Quinn, Shelle Sills and Kristina Whitcomb). Why they even donned Carmen Miranda style turbans boasting faux tropical fruit.
As the door to the suite opened for guests coming and going to dinner at Le Bibloquet and other spots, one person laughed that perhaps the early arrivals were headed to the Jonas brothers concert at American Airlines Center.
Surprise guest was former CCB-er Vinnie Reuben, who left North Texas with husband Malcolm Reuben for California to enjoy being grandparents over a year ago. The Reubens needed their black-tie fix and flew in for the 2019 CCB and seeing their pals 2010 CCB Chair Cynthia and Tom Mitchell.
And the event wasn’t “ladies-only.” Event producer Tom Addis, 2019 CCB First Husband Charles McEvoy and his son-in-law Kory Lynn and Pat’s son Morgan Malone joined the ladies including Kim Hext fresh off of co-chairing The Dallas Opera’s First Sight First Night, Ola Fojtasek, Michaela Dyer, Angela Seaman, Layne Pitzer, Tiffany Divis, Sunie Solomon, Susan McSherry and former CCB chairs (Michal Powell, Pam Perella and Claire Emanuelson), future CCB chairs (Tucker Enthoven and Leslie Diers). Tucker, who before taking over the CCB reins, was planning a dinner for 160 YPO-ers a week later. Menu note: Tucker is not a big fan of Chardonnay. She leans towards a nice rosé.
